Home care or home health?
Home care is help with everyday life: bathing, dressing, meals, rides and company. You usually pay by the hour; long-term care insurance or Medi-Cal programs sometimes help. Home health is skilled nursing and therapy ordered by a doctor, often after a hospital stay, and Medicare can cover it.

What is a home health agency?
A Medicare-certified home health agency provides skilled care at home ordered by a doctor: nursing, physical, occupational and speech therapy, and short visits from a home health aide, usually after a hospital stay or a change in health. Medicare can cover it when your parent is homebound and needs skilled care. It doesn't provide round-the-clock or long-term help.
